PALANGKA RAYA - The joint team of the Central Kalimantan Regional Police has arrested two men suspected of being involved in an attack on Katingan Police personnel during an anti-narcotics operation in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Central Katingan District.

"Two men with initials Y and L were successfully secured this morning in the Katingan Regency area," said Katingan Police Chief AKBP Dodik Hartono when confirmed in Palangka Raya, Wednesday.

The two suspected perpetrators are now undergoing intensive examination by investigators to delve into their respective roles in the attack that resulted in three members of the National Police dying.

Investigators are also continuing to develop the investigation to uncover the possibility of the involvement of other perpetrators in the case.

"Currently, both of them are still being questioned and the examination is still in the process of developing the case," he said.

Dodik said the joint team was still pursuing a number of people suspected of being involved in the attack.

According to him, the law enforcement process will continue until all parties suspected of being involved are arrested and processed in accordance with applicable regulations.

"So far, five suspected perpetrators have been successfully secured. Other suspects are still being pursued by the joint team and development will continue," he said.

Previously, the police had arrested three suspected perpetrators of the attack on Katingan Police members, namely initials Saldy, Robi, and N.

The arrest of Y and L increased the number of suspected perpetrators who are currently undergoing legal proceedings to five people.

The attack occurred when the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit personnel carried out an operation against suspected drug traffickers in Tumbang Kalemei Village on Thursday (2/7) morning.

The operation was met with resistance that was suspected of using sharp weapons, resulting in three members of the National Police being killed in action.

"We will continue to develop this case until all parties involved are revealed and processed in accordance with applicable law," said Dodik.

The incident began on Wednesday (1/7) after the Katingan Police Narcotics Unit received a report from the community regarding the alleged circulation of methamphetamine in Tumbang Kalemei Village.

The results of the investigation led to a suspect with the initials BIO who was a repeat offender for narcotics cases.

The Satresnarkoba team then moved to the location and arrived on Thursday (2/7) morning to carry out the arrest. During the enforcement process, officers received resistance using sharp weapons.

Despite having fired warning shots, the attack continued so officers took measured action to protect the safety of personnel.

The situation is increasingly not conducive when the family of the alleged perpetrator and a number of residents allegedly attacked the officers using sharp weapons, homemade firearms, and various dangerous objects.

The Satresnarkoba team then tried to save themselves while asking for help from personnel from the Katingan Police and the Katingan Tengah Police.

During the evacuation process, nine personnel were successfully rescued, while three members of the National Police were killed while on duty.
