China Open 2023 Results: Jonathan Christie Becomes The Only Indonesian Representative In The Semifinals

JAKARTA - Indonesian men's singles, Jonatan Christie, won Shesar Hiren Rhustavito's "brotherly war" in the quarter-finals of the China Open 2023 at the Changzhou Olympic Sport Center on Friday, August 8 evening WIB.

Jonathan and Shesar had a match of 36 minutes. Jonathan's victory was secured in two games ending 21-12 and 21-17.

At the beginning of the first game, the nuances of competition have been shown by both players. Facing Jonatan Christie who is the fifth seed, Shesar was two points ahead.

But it turned out that the situation did not last long because after passing the 3-3 twin numbers, Jonathan immediately shot up far. He led three points and continued to widen the gap by winning 11-6 in the first interval.

After the break, Shesar Hiren did not lose his enthusiasm to catch up to the five points. But mistakes and several times losing focus made Shesar have to admit Jonathan's toughness who won with a score of 21-12.

In the second game of the match between the compatriots is heating up, fighting for points continues to occur at 7-7 to 10-10. But one point ahead of the interval was able to be secured by Shesar from Jonathan with an 11-10 advantage.

After the second break, the game was still tense through several rallies that occurred so that it had made the twin scores return 16-16.

From that point, Jonathan Christie stepped on the gas by taking advantage of Shesar Hiren's mistakes by winning again at points 19-17 and continuing with two points to ensure a 21-17 victory in two rounds.

This result makes Jonatan Christie advance to the semifinals to challenge an opponent who is no less heavy. This fifth seed will face the winner between the first seed, Viktor Axelsen vs Loh Kean Yew who is the 7th seed.

Jonatan Christie's victory from the quarter-finals is also the first victory from three Indonesian representatives who appear today. Because Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia, who appeared first, failed to reach the final.

Meanwhile Bagas Maulana/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri gave up from Kang Min-hyuk/Seo Seung-jae. They fell in two straight games with a score of 15-21 and 17-21.
