WTA Cleveland 2023: Aldila Sutjiadi One Step Again Towards The Title Of Champion

JAKARTA - Another proud achievement was made by Indonesia's mainstay tennis player, Aldila Sutjiadi. He is one step away from winning the WTA Cleveland event, United States.

Together with his Japanese partner, Miyu Kato, Aldila successfully penetrated the final round. Having experienced difficulties in the second set, Aldila/Kato managed to pack a semifinal victory after going through a rubber set for Canadian tennis player Gabriela Dabrowski/Erin Routlife from New Zealand with a score of 7-5, 6-7(5/7), 10-7, Saturday, August 26, morning WIB.

Aldila/Kato's challenges are increasing in every round of the WTA 250 level hard field tournament. Both won two straight sets in the first round of 16 over Xu Yifan/Tereza Milhalikova with 6-4, 6-2.

In the quarter-finals, last Wednesday, the Indonesian-Japanese pair had to go through a rubber set to win 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 over Oksana Kalashnikova/Miriam Kolodziejova.

Aldila's struggle on North America's hard field actually started at the Mubadala Citi DC Open, Washington, after leaving the grass field season with achievements at Wimbledon, as reported by Antara.

The 28-year-old made a new history for Indonesian tennis by successfully breaking the Wimbledon mixed doubles semifinals with Dutch player Matwe Middelkoop.

Aldila, who also played with Kato in the women's doubles, Wimbledon, stopped early in the round of 16. Even so, Aldila/Kato for the first time took the 13th seed in the Grand Slam. Previously, at the Australian Open and French Open, both of them occupied the 16th seeded venue.

Entering the tough field season, Aldila/Kato had to run aground in Washington's ATP/WTA 500 opener after losing to the non-seeded Ukrainian pair Lyudmyla Kichenok/Nadiia Kichenok at the end of last July.

The two also attended the Canadian Open in Montreal in early August, but were caught in the round of 16, from the first seeded pair Coco Gauff/Jessica Pegula.

The following week, Aldila/Kato also joined ATP/WTA 1000 in Cincinnati but stopped in the quarter-finals after losing to third seed Nicole Melichar-Martinez/Ellen Perez.
