JAKARTA - Johann Zarco did not take long to find a new port after announcing his separation from Pramac Ducati. The French MotoGP racer officially joined LCR Honda.
Zarco will strengthen the Honda satellite team to sign a two-season contract starting in 2024. He will replace Alex Rins, who next season defends Yamaha.
Head of LCR Team Honda Lucio Cecchinello said Zarco's experience and performance so far were the two main things that the team considered.
In addition, Zarco also has a history with Honda because he was once one of the replacement riders in 2019. Cecchinello added that Zarco and Honda had a commitment and hard work that matched the team's value.
"We are very happy to welcome Johann to the Honda Castrol LCR team with all the details and signatures of each. This is Johann's return to the team after we had a moment with him in 2019, where we can already see his potential and work ethic," said Cecchinello.
"There are still a lot of races and jobs to be completed this season, but we look forward to the start of this new project in 2024," he added, as quoted by Antara.
Since 2021 until now, the former Tech3 rider has won a total of 12 podiums with the team. The details are four podiums in 2021, four podiums in 2022, and four more podiums this season.
"Next year, I will face new challenges. But for now, I want to close this championship in the best possible way," Zarco said when announcing his departure from Pramac.
"I thank my entire team, Ducati, and everyone who has worked with me for the years we spent with this," he continued.
