BANJARMASIN – Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Center, Hendry Ch Bangun, appreciates the Journalists Planting program initiated by the PWI South Kalimantan. This program is considered in line with the national vision of realizing food security and is real evidence of the contribution of journalists outside the field of journalism.
Hendry expressed his appreciation while reviewing the demonstration garden on Jalan Pelita V, Landasan Ulin Utara, Banjarbaru, Friday, January 10. This visit was carried out together with the management of the PWI Center and the PWI South Kalimantan Province.
"This activity supports the Asta Cita of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, especially in the food security program. PWI South Kalimantan has utilized the land optimally and provided a positive example for PWI administrators in other regions," said Hendry, who was accompanied by PWI Secretary General Iqbal Irsyad, PWI Central Treasurer M Nasir, Chairperson of the 2025 HPN Organizing Committee, Raja Parlindungan Pane, Secretary of the Organizing Committee, Sarwani, Deputy Chairperson of the Seminar Division, Chelsia Chan and the ranks of the 2025 HPN Committee.
Various commodities have been planted in the pilot garden, such as chilies, papaya, corn, tomatoes, and oranges. The harvest is planned to be distributed to journalists during the implementation of the 2025 National Press Day (HPN).
The Head of the South Kalimantan Province PWI, Zainal Helmie, explained that this program is part of a series of 2025 HPN activities. In addition to utilizing land in Banjarbaru, the South Kalimantan PWI also manages five hectares of land in Jejangkit, Barito Kuala.
"We plant chilies, cucumbers, and various other vegetables on this land to make it productive. This is a form of support for the national food security program and efforts to make South Kalimantan the food barn of Kalimantan, especially the capital city of the archipelago," said Helmie.
Helmie added that the Journalists Planting program is in line with the food self-sufficiency agenda launched by the President of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition, this activity also supports the policy of the South Kalimantan Provincial Government in strengthening the food sector.
