JAKARTA - Raja Sapta Oktohari was re-elected as general chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) for the 2023-2027 period. He will lead the organization with Ismail Ning who will act as deputy chairman.

"I am grateful to all parties, we have just finished holding the congress, although it has not been completed, the election is absolutely acclamation," Okto said at a press conference in Jakarta, Friday.

"I and my brother Ismail Ning have worked four years as the Executive Committee, we have been dating for a long time, in different formats. But, after this we will not stop because there are still many programs," he added.

This is Okto's second term serving as chairman of KOI. He previously served as chairman for the 2015-2019 period replacing Erick Thohir.

Okto is also a figure close to the world of sports. He once led the DKI Jakarta Indonesian Sport Bike Association (ISSI), PB ISSI Pusat for the 2015-2019 period, Chef de Mission Indonesia at the 2016 Rio Olympics, to the Chairperson of the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games Organization Committee (INAPGOC) in 2017.

Previously, the Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo hoped that, with the election of a new management, KOI could continue to improve performance by building a sustainable and transparent organizational management system.

Furthermore, Dito also appreciated KOI for the 2019-2023 period which was considered to have worked hard in various efforts made for Indonesian athletes.

"These efforts have ensured the participation of Indonesian athletes in multi-sport events, such as the 2019 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics which have been postponed until 2021, Vietnam's 2021 SEA Games which have withdrawn to 2022, and the 2023 Cambodian SEA Games," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.

In addition, KOI is also considered to have succeeded in maintaining Indonesian sports diplomacy at the international level, one of which is by accelerating the completion of WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) sanctions.
