South Korean Breakthrough! Juergen Klinsmann Appointed As A Coach With 3.5 Years Contract Duration

JAKARTA - The South Korean national team has officially appointed German legend, Jurgen Klinsmann, as coach. This news was shared directly by the Korean Football Association (KFA) on Monday, February 27.

"The Korean Football Association has officially appointed German coach Jurgen Klinsmann as the new coach of the national team," the KFA said in a statement.

The 58-year-old coach agreed to a three-year and six-month contract. This means he will manage the Taeguk Warriors until the 2026 World Cup finals.

However, the KFA official statement did not mention the value of the contract and Klinsmann's salary while working with Son Heung-min and friends.

Klinsmann said he was very honored by this opportunity. Moreover, he knows and is aware of how significant improvements have occurred in the South Korean national team.

"I am very happy and honored to follow in the footsteps of the great coaches who have managed the Korean national team," Klinsmann said as quoted by the BBC, Monday 27 February.

"I know the Korean national team has been improving and achieving results for a long time. I will do my best to achieve successful results, in the Asian Cup and the 2026 World Cup," he added.

Previously it was known, the position of coach of the South Korean national team was vacant after Paulo Bento resigned after the 2022 World Cup. Bento at that time brought Taeguk Warriors to reach the round of 16.

Klinsmann himself had occupied the chair of the German national team coach and led his country to finish third in the 2006 World Cup as the host. He then coached the United States and led them to the knockout stages of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
