Rehan/Lisa Shortcomings When Winning Tickets To The Second Round Of India Open 2023

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati revealed their shortcomings after qualifying for the second round of the 2023 India Open.

Rehan/Lisa went through the first round of the Super 750 BWF level event after winning three games 21-14, 17-21, and 21-18 over the Chinese Taipei pair Yang Po-Hsuan/Hu Ling Fang at KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, New Delhi, Tuesday, January 17 morning local time.

Rehan admitted that he could not play loose in this match and made many unforced errors. In fact, they should be able to win easily.

"From the match earlier, I still off alone a lot. I'm not calm enough. Even though the opponent is not that great either. I should have been able to play more calmly. This happened maybe because this was my first appearance. So, I need to adapt again," he said in a written statement.

He added that he would evaluate the match earlier in order to reduce mistakes when playing in the second half later. Moreover, the candidate they are likely to face is China's first winner, Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong.

The new pair will compete against the Malaysian pair, Goh Soon Huat/Lai Shevon Jemie, next Wednesday. However, on paper they are the favorites for their next opponent, Rehan/Lisa.

"This experience should be a lesson for the next match," said Rehan.

"In the second half, we will just play all out. We will just enjoy the game. We already know the quality and experience of a myriad of opponents. We will play without a burden, let them be tense," he added.

Meanwhile, Lisa felt she performed better in the match earlier. She plays neater and can maintain the leading edge of the game in an excellent way.

"Today my performance is much better. The front game is more daring. Compared to the last Malaysia Open, my front game this time is more lively," she said.

Rehan/Lisa's success in reaching the second round could not be followed by Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo's men's singles, who immediately lost in the first round against Chinese singles, Shi Yuqi.
