Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Urges Indonesian Citizens to Remain Calm and Follow Local Authorities' Instructions After the Kumamoto Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia (KBRI) Tokyo appeals to all Indonesian citizens in Japan to remain calm and increase vigilance and follow the directions of local authorities following the Kumamoto Prefecture earthquake.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 shook Kumamoto Prefecture on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 16.35 local time.

Based on coordination with WNI nodes in the affected areas, so far there has been no information mentioning any casualties of Indonesian citizens at the scene.

"To all Indonesian citizens in the Kumamoto Prefecture area to remain calm and vigilant. Prioritize the safety of yourself and your family and continue to monitor official information on the development of the situation through the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the Japanese Government," said the Coordinator for Information and Social Culture Functions of the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo Muhammad Al Aula in a statement from the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, Tuesday (28/7).

"Follow the directions and instructions from local authorities regarding evacuation measures and other safety measures. Try to keep your mobile phone active and save battery usage so that you can be contacted for emergency coordination purposes," he continued.

"The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo continues to monitor the condition of Indonesian citizens who are affected by working together and communicating with all the WNI community in Kumamoto and its surroundings. Coordination with Japanese authorities, especially in the Kumamoto Prefecture area, is also ongoing," he added.

The Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka continue to monitor the development of the situation and coordinate with Japanese authorities, as well as Indonesian communities in the affected areas.
