Budget And Security Issues Threaten The Organizing Of The 2024 Paris Olympics

JAKARTA - The 2024 Olympics in Paris are now being questioned. There have been reports that the 2024 Olympics are under threat due to budget and security issues.

This issue made French President Emmanuel Macron meet with senior ministers. The meeting was held to ease the concerns raised.

France's reputation as an experienced host in organizing the sporting event has been tarnished after the chaos of the Champions League final in Paris on 28 May. Critics have highlighted the way in which the police are treated as cruel.

France's main auditing agency, the Cour des Comptes, has even warned in a report that it is important to step up preparations for "considerable" security challenges.

"A more precise definition of security needs is becoming urgent," the report said, cited from AFP from Antara.

Apart from security concerns, the 2024 Paris Olympics also face budget challenges due to the current rise in inflation. The organizing committee for the COJO Olympics recorded a budget of 4 billion euros or around Rp. 60.6 billion for the implementation of the quadrennial Games.

However, with rising inflation, austerity efforts must also be made. The current sponsorship is considered insufficient to cover the lack of funds needed.

"I reiterate a simple principle: there will be no Olympic taxes. The Olympics must finance the Olympics," Macron said.

A total of 13 million tickets will be sold for the Olympics and Paralympics, with nearly half of the tickets made available to the public for less than 50 euros.

The state will buy 400,000 tickets to be distributed to young people and schoolchildren, especially those under the age of 16, Macron told L'Equipe.
