Italy Vs Argentina 2022 Finalissima Schedule: First Competitive Meeting After 32 Years

JAKARTA – The Finalissima 2022 match will bring together the Italian and Argentine national teams. These two teams are the champions of Euro 2020 and Copa America 2021.

The duel between the two countries will take place at Wembley Stadium on Thursday, June 2 at 01:45 western Indonesia time. This is their first competitive meeting in 32 years.

Finalissima is a collaboration between the European Football Union (UEFA) and the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol). This event was previously called the Artemio Franchi Trophy.

The meeting between Italy and Argentina is the third edition. Previously this event was held in 1985 and 1993 under the name Artemio Franchi Trophy.

Gli Azzurri came as Euro champions after beating England on penalties in the final. Meanwhile, Argentina won the Copa America after a 1-0 win over Brazil.

The Euro 2020 trophy is the second trophy for Italy in their history. However, they came into the game against Argentina after failing to secure a ticket to the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

This is the second time in a row that Gli Azzurri have been absent from this prestigious event. Previously they also failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia.

On the other hand, Argentina, who won the Copa America for the first time since 1993, come into this match with Qatar's World Cup tickets in hand.

Lionel Messi and his team recorded passing the qualifying round to get a ticket to Qatar without losing. They won 11 times and drew six of the 17 matches played.

Apart from failing to go to Qatar, Italy also had poor statistics when they met Argentina. They are recorded to have lost in their last three matches against the Tango team.

Gli Azzurri's last three defeats have all occurred in friendly matches. Their last competitive meeting was at the 1990 World Cup, where Argentina won 4-3 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in normal time.
