Canelo Alvarez Still Hurt And Hasn't Decided On A Plan: Bivol Rematch Or Versus Golovkin Trilogy?

JAKARTA - Russian boxer Dmitry Bivol surprised many when he beat Canelo Alvarez just over a week ago at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Following Canelo's loss, promoter Eddie Hearn indicated that the Mexican boxer was opening the door for a rematch against Bivol.

"I think Canelo's (rematch) against Dmitry Bivol is probably the biggest fight in boxing right now", Hearn told Marca.

"But it will depend on Canelo, and obviously we will talk to Dmitry and (manager) Vadim (Kornilov), but I don't see (Canelo) not wanting to accept the challenge.

"I said in his preparations, it's like Canelo wants to handicap himself and fight this big and great champion to test himself, and tonight maybe a bridge too far against the great light heavyweight world champion.

"But knowing Canelo, I think he only wants one fight, which is a rematch with Dmitry Bivol."

After the fight against Canelo, Bivol apologized to Hearn for postponing the long-awaited third fight between his client and Gennady Golovkin.

"Sorry I ruined your plans with Gennady Golovkin", Bivol said ironically after the fight.

Golovkin is of course very much looking forward to his duel with Canelo after Canelo won their rematch by majority decision, where the first fight ended in a controversial draw.

"It didn't end like that", said Canelo, who has a rematch clause in his contract.

"Boxing is like that. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose, but always with your head held high.

"I will remember the great fight we offered the people. We will fight again and we will win again."

Meanwhile, Bivol has stressed that he will be more than happy to face Canelo again in the future.

"Rematch? No problem. Let's talk about the rematch", said the Russian.

"I did this fight because I just wanted the chance and I value the opportunity. I'm ready for the rematch, I just want to make sure I win and be treated like a champion now."
