Lee Chong Wei's Advice Confirms Lee Zii Jia's Decision To Leave The Malaysian National Training Center

JAKARTA - The decision for Malaysian men's singles, Lee Zii Jia, to withdraw from the Malaysian Badminton Association (BAM) was not made hastily. He made the decision after consulting badminton legend Lee Chong Wei.

Lee Zii Jia officially submitted his resignation letter to BAM on Tuesday, January 11. The decision was made after he considered all aspects, including getting advice from his idol.

"I also met with Lee Chong Wei to get his advice on various things and he also gave me a lot of advice, both on and off the pitch, he taught me a lot," said Lee Zii quoted from Stadium Astron.

"Because he's a legend. So, his experience is very important for me. As a player, all I want is to train, play well bring a name and give good results for Malaysia. That's all I want.," said Lee Zii Jia.

Zii Jia hopes that all parties can understand the decision he made because it is for the benefit of his future career.

"What BAM and I want is the best decision for me. For myself, I also want the best for my career. For this year, I want a more stable performance, I want to be in the top five in the world.

Even though he is no longer at the BAM National Training Center, Lee Zii Jia promised to keep trying to make his country proud in important events. He saw that there was no difference between independent players and the national team in making the country proud.

"I think it doesn't matter whether it is a professional or a national player, we are all fighting for the name of Malaysia. We are playing in the same tournament. This is reality," he said.

Lee Zii Jia is predicted to be the successor to Lee Chong Wei's relay. The 2021 All England champion is considered to have qualified potential to match the international achievements that have been inscribed by his predecessor.

Malaysian public expectations of Lee Zii Jia soared after the player skyrocketed into the world's top 10 rankings. He is now ranked seventh in the world and has the potential to shift the badminton players above him.
