Antonsen Withdraws From Indonesia Open Ahead Of Challenging Jonatan Christie In The Quarter-Finals

JAKARTA - The Danish representative, Anders Antonsen, is scheduled to appear in the quarter-finals of the Indonesia Open 2021 to challenge the host's representative, Jonatan Christie. However, ahead of the match which was held on Friday, November 26, Antonsen chose to withdraw.

Based on information from the Badminton World Federation (BWF), the third seed withdrew from the tournament due to a chest muscle injury.

Due to his health condition, Antonsen was advised by the doctor to rest and not continue the match.

"Anders Antonsen from Denmark has withdrawn from the Indonesia Open 2021 due to chest muscle problems", reads the official statement received by VOI.

"Based on the statement from the doctor, the world number three athlete is advised not to continue the match", statement continued.

In fact, the match between Antonsen and Jonathan will be held at the second field of the Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua this afternoon. But Antonsen's resignation is definitely an advantage for Jonathan.

The two men's singles badminton last met at the 2021 Thomas Cup in Denmark. Antonsen and Jonathan have met eight times, where Jonathan holds the winning record with a score of 5:3.

With Antonsen's withdrawal, Jonathan advanced to the semifinals and waited for a potential opponent between Antonsen's compatriots, namely Viktor Axelsen or Sai Praneeth from India.
