Construction Of Mattoanging Stadium Is Stalled, Supporters Talk To Commission X

JAKARTA - The wait for South Sulawesi football lovers to be able to return to watch the match at the Mattoanging Stadium has not been realized. Two years after it was torn down, the construction of the Makassar residents' pride stadium is still stalled.

As a result, Makassar PSM supporters who are members of several alliances went up to Commission X of the House of Representatives (DPR) to conduct hearings. This was done because they did not find an agreement and a real answer from the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) on the stadium builder project.

There were two representatives of supporters who attended the hearing with Commission X of the DPR which took place on Thursday, November 11. They are the Makassar Football Lovers Alliance and the Mattoanging Care Alliance.

During the hearing, the two alliances emphasized that they wanted clarity on the Mattoanging Stadium revitalization plan.

"We continue to look forward to the continuation of the construction of the stadium, we have monitored it so far, we are patient but indeed we do not see any real efforts from the provincial government, DPRD to accelerate development," said M Al Fajri Jayadi as field leader of the Mattoanging Care Alliance during an audience with Commission X of the DPR.

The main purpose of the presence of representatives of the alliance in hearings with Commission X of the DPR is to ask representatives of Commission X to become mediators. This is because the efforts of the supporters in Makassar to collect the promise of development have yet to find a bright spot.

The pressure of the alliance representatives for the rebuilding of the Mattoanging Stadium is also not only based on the sports world. But, for them, Mattoanging Stadium is the life and pride of the surrounding community.

"A year after it was demolished there was no progress, even though for us (Stadium) Mattoanging is not just a stadium. It is our pride, our pride as Bugis people. Many depend on it for their lives," said Rohmat Taqwa who was also present as a representative of the alliance.

The Mattoanging Stadium was officially demolished in 2019. The decision was made as a plan to revitalize the stadium to a national standard.

The collapse of the Mattoanging Stadium made PSM Makassar expelled from home and adrift in search of a temporary base for better hopes. In fact, until now, there has been no definite movement to resume development. The old location has become a stalled project that is not being taken care of.
