Australia's New Regulation Affects Mitsubishi And Mazda And Suzuki Delay While Selling Jimny 3 Doors

JAKARTA - Australian Design Rules (ADR) regulations in Australia forced various manufacturers to tackle or hold sales of several models, including the Jimny 3-door Offroad SUV.

Berdasarkan laporan Drive, dikutip Kamis, 6 Februari, disebutkan bahwa Suzuki Jimny tiga intu belum memenuhi aturan baru untuk teknologi keselamatan penghindaran kollis atau Avoidance Safety Technology.

General Manager of Suzuki Australia, Michael Pachota, said in a statement to Drive that the brand currently has supplies to continue sales by 2025.

"Jimny XL (five doors) is not affected, Jimny currently has 3 doors that do not meet the new ADR requirements, but an investigation to address this has been carried out and our position regarding this product has not been confirmed, sales of this stage will continue in 2025," he said.

The car, which is very popular in various countries including Indonesia (Jimny 3 doors) has violated ADR, a new mandate for Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) technology, which is intended to step on the brakes if a back-and-back collision is detected with the car in front.

Although Jimny has three doors equipped with AEB, it appears that the system does not meet the specific operating parameters outlined in the rules, which goes into effect for all new vehicles of its type starting March 1, 2025.

While Jimny XL has complied with March 2025 regulations, as it is equipped with a more sophisticated AEB system, and goes on sale after March 1, 2023, when all the new vehicles introduced must meet the standards.

Suzuki Australia has not confirmed when Jimny will have three Japanese-made doors, not India like XL will be upgraded with better AEB technology, but the company hopes it will happen later this year.

This new regulation also affects several manufacturers, such as three Mitsubishi models in Australia, ASX today, Pajero Sport and Eclipse Cross, as well as affected Mazda 6 sedans and wagons.
