JAKARTA - Electrification technology has now not only penetrated the mobile segment but also the supercar sector. Several manufacturers such as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bentley have introduced cars to the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system globally.

Of course, other manufacturers such as Aston Martin do not want to be left behind in the race towards electrification. In fact, this British brand is considering presenting DB12 and Vantage with the PHEV powertrain, outside the fire model.

Director Vehicle Performance Aston Martin Lagonda Simon Newton, said his party opened up the possibility of presenting other PHEV supercars in the future.

"We have an open mind in all today's technology," said Newton, quoted from Autocar, Friday, September 6.

The manufacturer confirmed its plans to carry the PHEV system as a transitional technology to pure electrification, after they delayed their first EV launch due to erratic demand for battery-powered sports cars.

However, Newton is still not sure the current PHEV technology fits into Vanquish which was just launched some time ago with a 5.2 liter V12 engine.

"We chose the V12 engine to increase the taste of this car and if it is carried by the PHEV system, the weight will increase," added Newton.

In line with Newton, Director of Product & Market Strategy Aston Martin Lagonda Alex Long said the V12 engine with PHEV cannot be combined and must be designed with a decent electric range.

"If you want to put it together, make sure the car must have a decent reach," said Long.

Currently, two Aston Martin models such as DB12 and Vantage are considered suitable for this system because they carry a 4.0 liter V8 engine supplied from Mercedes-AMG. The powertrain is also embedded in your window.

Aston Martinmen owns the engine, which is combined with a rear axis electric motor, resulting in 789 dk of power and 1,355 Nm of torque in collaboration with a 400V voltage battery.

The luxury brand also confirmed that it will be released at the end of this year, followed by another PHEV supercar in 2026.
