JAKARTA - The Polestar car brand has recalled nearly 2.000 electric vehicles in China, and is the first massive recall in recent years.

Quoting from the Cnevpost page, Monday, April 1, based on an announcement from a website from China's market regulation, Polestar recalled a total of 1,867 units of Polestar 4 electric vehicles in 2023 and 2024 which were produced locally between November 29, 2023 to February 1, 2024.

This recall is due to a software problem in the braking section, which can trigger a decrease in brake control resulting in function failure including the component's electronic assistance.

"This can result in reduced braking effectiveness and safety hazards," the announcement read.

Polestar recommends for users who experience brake system damage whose info appears on the vehicle instrument screen, it is recommended to keep their distance safe.

Responding to the above problem, Polestar will improve the software for vehicles to be recalled for free via OTA (over the air) technology. For vehicles that cannot be upgraded via OTA, Polestar will contact users to upgrade the vehicle for free.

As additional information, the Polestar brand was co-founded by Volvo and Geely in 2017, and Polestar 4 electric models went on sale in China on April 17, 2023, with prices ranging from 349,800 yuan to 533,800 yuan (Rp769 million to Rp1.1 billion).
