JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Maruf Amin recounted when the Prophet Muhammad SAW carried out the hijrah (move place) from Mecca to Medina. The first thing he did when he arrived in Medina was to build a mosque. Maruf said, this proved the importance of the function of the mosque for the Muslims at that time, which was not only a means of worship, but also a place for social activities. He hopes that the function of the mosque at this time can be as exemplified by the Prophet Muhammad.

“Rasulullah SAW himself has also functioned the mosque not only to make the mosque a means of ritual worship such as praying and reading the Qur'an, but also prospering it with da'wah, education, and social activities such as distribution of zakat, qurban, marriage, discussion of people's problems, and others," said the vice president during the virtual inauguration of the As-Sa'adah Mosque in Cisarua District, Bogor Regency, West Java, Saturday, October 30.

The vice president then gave an example during the current Covid-19 pandemic, mosques are expected to have a social function, namely to play a role in supporting government efforts in restoring social impacts faced by the community. According to him, mosques must be role models in implementing health protocols, especially wearing masks, washing hands, and maintaining distance in worship.

"Mosques must also be a place to help each other in restoring the community's economy, both through the distribution of zakat, infaq, and alms, as well as the people's economic empowerment movement," he said as quoted by the Setwapres.

In addition, the Vice President also said that the mosque should be used as a place to develop Islamic da'wah using a moderate approach or method (wasathiyah), which emphasizes politeness and brotherhood, and avoids ways of hostility and hatred, in accordance with the principles of Islamic teachings as a blessing for the people. universe (rahmatan lil 'alamin).

"I hope that not even an inch of land will escape the influence of the mosque. Therefore, I hope that the As-Sa'adah Mosque can also develop the surrounding community according to the function of the large mosque,” he hoped.

Previously, Chairman of the Prosperity Council of As-Sa'adah Mosque, Setiawan Budi Utomo, in his remarks expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Vice President who was pleased to inaugurate the As-Sa'adah Mosque.
