A Day Without Extremely Long Rain Occurs In 8 Regions In NTT

KUPANG - The Kupang Class II Climatology Station stated that a day without rain in the extreme long category occurred in eight regions in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province according to the results of monitoring during Dasarian III September 2021.

"Regions with this extremely long category have more than 60 days without rain", said Kupang Class II Climatology Station Head, Rahmattulloh Adji, quoted by Antara, Thursday, September 30.

According to him, days without long extreme rain, among others, occurred around Rendu, Nagekeo Regency; around Hadakewa in Lembata Regency; around Rambangaru and Kamanggih in East Sumba Regency; and around Busalangga in Rote Ndao District.

Long days without extreme rain also occurred around Dieko, Sabu Raijua District ; around Sulamu, Baumata, Oenlasi, and Oenesu in Kupang Regency; around Fatubenao in Belu District; and around Lasiana, Sukumana, Bakunase, Oepoi, Fatubena, and Fatubesi in Kupang City.

Rahmattulloh said that areas experiencing long days without extreme rain need to anticipate the occurrence of meteorological drought, which can cause forest or land fires as well as a clean water crisis.

He also explained that based on the analysis of rainfall in the Third Basis in September 2021, the NTT region generally faces rainfall in the low category (0-50 millimeters).

During that period, according to him, rainfall in the medium category (51-150 millimeters) only occurred in parts of West Manggarai, most of Manggarai, parts of East Manggarai, and a small part of Ngada and Ende.

The Kupang Class II Climatology Station predicts that in Basis I October 2021 the NTT area will generally have the opportunity to receive less than 20 millimeters of rainfall.
