NUNUKAN - A total of 1.447 Indonesian citizens, some of whom are Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) from Sabah, Malaysia, will be repatriated to Nunukan, North Kalimantan until December 2021.

The head of the Nunukan Center for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (BP2MI), AKBP FJ Ginting, explained that the plan to repatriate Indonesian workers from Sabah was still waiting for information from the Indonesian Consulate in Sabah.

"Yes, it is true that there will be repatriation (PMI) from Sabah to Nunukan," he said in Nunukan, as reported by Antara, Thursday, September 30.

The repatriation of thousands of Indonesian citizens will be carried out by the Malaysian government in stages until December 2021.

Of the 1.447 people referred to, not all were PMI, but there were repatriated school children who were also sent to Nunukan as many as 650 people. The rest are migrant workers.

Ginting added, the BP2MI is collaborating with the Nunukan Regency Government to carry out pickups, including the provision of shelters at Rusunawa Jalan Ujang Dewa in South Nunukan Village.

"So the repatriation will be carried out in stages and the shelter will remain in the Nunukan Rusunawa," said Ginting.

The Indonesian citizens who will be repatriated come from the working area of the Indonesian Consulate General in Kota Kinabalu and the Indonesian Consulate in Tawau.
