This decision was taken after the government carried out several simulations from a pre-existing date.

There are several dates chosen and simulated by the government, namely April 24, May 6, May 8, or May 15. As a result, the last date is said to be the most rational to be submitted to the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the DPR (House of Representatives).

"May 15, 2024, is the most rational date to submit to the KPU and DPR before October 7", said Mahfud in a statement posted on the YouTube of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Monday, September 27.

He explained that this decision was taken at a meeting this morning which was held internally and attended by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, and other ministers including the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian to the Commander of the Indonesian Armed Forces, the National Police Chief, and the Head of the Indonesian National Police, and Head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN).
