Gibran Will Close School If COVID-19 Cluster Appears

SOLO - Surakarta Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka confirmed that he will immediately close schools if a COVID-19 cluster appears due to face-to-face learning activities (PTM).

"If there is a (COVID-19) school, the school will immediately close", Gibran said in Solo, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, September 22.

Gibran said so far there have been no reports of COVID-19 transmission due to PTM in Solo City. However, they will continue to anticipate this happening.

"I have ordered the head of the service (Head of the Health Office and Head of the Education Office) to conduct random testing (random tests) in schools, hopefully, there will be no clusters in schools", he continued.

Gibran said the implementation of the health protocol had been going well in schools. Related to this, his party continues to actively carry out inspections to schools to ensure teachers and students carry out health protocols properly.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Surakarta City Education Office, Etty Retnowati, said that she was ready to conduct random tests at schools appointed by the Mayor of Surakarta.

"We are ready if he is already there, which one to go to. The school is accompanied by a health center, the health center also monitors it", she said.

According to her, the random test itself has started to be carried out today. In fact, random tests are not only conducted at the elementary and junior high school levels which are directly under the supervision of the Surakarta City Government but also High School and Vocational High School which are the realm of supervision of the Central Java Provincial Government.

Regarding the health protocol, she said they would continue to remind the school through the school supervisor.

"If the morning meeting with the supervisor, I ask (to remind the school). After that, they are 'mubeng' (going around schools)", she said.
