16,382 Palestinian Students Died Since Conflict In 2023

JAKARTA - The Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education and Education revealed that 16,382 students were killed and 23,532 injured since the start of Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in 2023.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministry of Education clarified the number of students killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the aggression had reached more than 16,245 and 25,959 injured, while in the West Bank 137 students were killed, 897 others injured, and 749 detained, quoted from WAFA June 10.

Furthermore, the Ministry indicated that 917 teachers and administrators were killed, 4,347 injured in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and more than 196 detained in the West Bank.

443 government schools, universities, and buildings affiliated with it, as well as 91 schools affiliated with the United Nations Agency for Assistance and Work (UNRWA), were bombed and damaged in the Gaza Strip.

In addition, sixteen university buildings were completely destroyed, and 20 educational institutions suffered severe damage. In the West Bank, 152 schools and eight universities were raided and damaged.

Not only that, for the second year in a row, high school students in Gaza failed to take the exam. The ministry noted that schools in Nablus were closed due to persistent attacks by Israeli forces since the morning.

The ministry also noted that about six UNRWA schools in Jerusalem have remained closed since May 8, 2025.

The latest conflict in the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, 2023 when a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region, killing 1,200 people and another 251 being held hostage according to Israeli calculations.

Meanwhile, medical sources in Gaza noted that Palestinian deaths in the enclave since October 2023 have reached 54,880 people, the majority of children and women, while the injured reached 126,227 people.
