JAKARTA - The Social Service of Manpower and Transmigration of Yogyakarta City noted that 2,016 elderly citizens were included in the family data of the target family for social protection insurance. They will receive assistance funds in 2021 with a value of IDR 108 million per month.

"The assistance will be provided for one year from January to December. However, the disbursement is carried out in two stages. Currently, the first phase is the only disbursement", said the Head of the Yogyakarta City Manpower and Transmigration Social Service, Maryustion Tonang, in Yogyakarta, Monday, September 20.

In the first phase of disbursement, every elderly aged 60 years and over will receive the assistance of IDR 1.08 million which is given non-cash or through a bank account.

The second phase of disbursement will be carried out after the verification process for receiving the first phase of assistance has been completed.

According to him, the assistance funds only target poor elderly people. With a note, beneficiaries or other family members in the same household are not registered as recipients of other social assistance from the State Budget or Regional Budget.

The elderly who receive assistance are also not administrators or components of the Family Hope Program and are not administrators of the Food Social Assistance Program.

The Yogyakarta City Manpower and Transmigration Department of Social Affairs has also prepared assistants for the elderly who are registered as recipients of assistance funds.

“This assistant will help the elderly when they disburse aid funds. One companion takes care of several elderly people”, he said.

Assistance will be terminated if the elderly die, changes residence, or refuses assistance. Meanwhile, Yogyakarta Deputy Mayor Heroe Poerwadi who handed over assistance funds to the elderly said that the assistance was individual.

"Hopefully, the elderly can have money to help meet their basic needs or other needs, so they can still be active and productive", he said.

As for the elderly who are not included in the target family data for social protection insurance, they still receive some facilitation from the Yogyakarta City Government, such as access to health and social activities.

In fact, he continued, the elderly in the city of Yogyakarta is still involved in community activities to remain empowered, for example being teachers in PAUD and kindergarten to share stories about their life experiences.

"We are trying to make Yogyakarta a city suitable for the elderly", he said.
