ISIS Claims Responsibility For Bombing Attacks In Afghanistan Says Dozens Of Taliban Members Are Victims

JAKARTA - The Islamic State terrorist group claimed responsibility for a bomb attack in the eastern city of Jalalabad, naming dozens of Taliban members killed or injured, the group's news agency Amaaq said on its Telegram channel on Sunday.

"More than 35 members of the Taliban militia were killed or injured, in the series of explosions that took place," the militant group said, referring to explosions on Saturday and Sunday.

There has been no immediate comment from the Taliban regarding the death toll and ISIS claims for the bomb attacks that occurred in Afghanistan this time.

"In one attack, a Taliban vehicle patrolling in Jalalabad was targeted," a Taliban official, who asked not to be named, told the AFP news agency.

"Women and children were among the injured," he said.

In addition, at least two people were also reportedly injured in a car bomb explosion just before noon in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighborhood of Kabul.

Earlier, at least three people were killed and around 20 people injured in an explosion in Jalalabad, the capital of Nanjarhar province, Saturday, sources told Reuters, citing information from hospitals and witnesses.

The death toll occurred during a series of five explosions, the sources, who said they had received information from hospitals and eyewitnesses, told Reuters.

One source said Taliban members were among the victims. The second said the bomb attack did target a Taliban vehicle.

Jalalabad is the capital of Nangarhar province, which has been a stronghold for the Islamic State (ISIS) militant group that has reactivated since the fall of Kabul to the Taliban.

Prior to this weekend's bombings, ISIS Khorasan (ISIS-K) based in Khorasan Province also carried out a bomb attack at Kabul Airport on August 26, claiming the deaths of more than 180 people.
