Recommendations From Komnas HAM-Ombudsman Regarding Novel Baswedan Et Al. Arriving At The Palace, What Is Jokowi's Attitude?

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has received a letter from the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) and the Indonesian Ombudsman containing recommendations regarding the National Insight Test Assessment (TWK) for employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

This confirmation of acceptance was confirmed by the Presidential Special Staff for Early Law, Purwono. He said the letter was received by the State Secretariat and would be processed.

"As far as I know (the letter of recommendation, ed) has been received by the State Secretariat and processed according to the current Presidential correspondence procedure", said Dini when contacted by VOI, Friday, September 17.

However, he does not yet know what follow-up action will be taken to President Jokowi after receiving the letter. Including whether to invite the two institutions.

"I don't know, it has to be checked with the State Secretariat or the Presidential Secretariat because it's the President's schedule that they set", he stressed.

VOI has tried to contact the Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Heru Budi Hartono, but has yet to receive a response regarding this matter.

The same effort has also been asked to the Special Staff of the Minister of State Secretary, Faldo Maldini, but instead, he suggested asking Dini.

As previously reported, after submitting a letter to the State Secretariat some time ago, Komnas HAM hopes to meet with President Jokowi to discuss the TWK polemic.

Recently, the Commissioner of the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM), Choirul Anam, assessed that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) was not too late to resolve the TWK polemic.

He even said that the findings of rights violations in the test and his agency's recommendations could be Jokowi's foothold in solving the problem.

"The president is still authorized and can take steps to resolve the KPK TWK issue. Komnas HAM findings and recommendations can still be used as stepping stones for this step", Anam told reporters quoted on Friday, September 17.

For information, 57 employees can no longer work at the KPK because they cannot become ASN (State Civil Apparatus) according to the mandate of the KPK Law No. 19 of 2019. These employees include senior KPK investigators Novel Baswedan and Ambarita Damanik, Chairman of the KPK Employee Forum, Yudi Purnomo, KPK investigator Harun Al-Rashid, as well as dozens of other names.

The anti-corruption commission argued that their inability to become ASN was not due to laws and regulations such as KPK Commission Regulation Number 1 of 2021, but because of the results of their assessment.

Not only that, but the KPK also ensures that employees have been given the same opportunity even though they have passed the age limit or have stopped being ASN before.
