Preventing Annual Floods, Dredging Of 2 Reservoirs In South Jakarta Continues

JAKARTA - The South Jakarta Natural resources (SDA) Sub-Department continues to carry out mud dredging in two reservoirs in the South Jakarta area in an effort to prepare for the rainy season.

A total of 3 heavy equipment excavators were deployed to carry out mud dredging in the Babakan Reservoir area, Jagakarsa District.

Dredging has been carried out since early 2021 in an effort to prepare for flooding. Until now, work continues to be carried out in the 10-hectare Babakan Reservoir.

In addition to the Babakan Reservoir, dredging is also carried out in the Mangga Bolong Reservoir. In this reservoir, as many as 3 units of jumbo-sized amphibious excavators were also deployed to carry out mud dredging.

The 5-hectare Mangga Bolong Reservoir is deepened so that it can accommodate more water discharge from the river.

"The dredging is 1.5 to 2 meters deep. We have deployed 6 heavy equipment excavators in two reservoir locations, namely Babakan Reservoir and Mangga Bolong Reservoir", said Head of Drainage Maintenance Section of the South Jakarta SDA Sub-dept., Junjung when contacted by VOI, Thursday, September 16.

Dredging in each reservoir, at least 3 excavators are deployed. 2 units of excavators in the reservoir and 1 unit of excavators above the reservoir when dredging mud.

"It is hoped that it can accommodate river water sent from Depok, West Java", he said.

Until now, the dredging of mud is still continuing, because the Babakan Reservoir area is 10 hectares and the Mangga Bolong Reservoir is 5 hectares.

"Hopefully it can handle water when the rainy season arrives", concluded Junjung.
