The Commander Of The Armed Forces Selected By The Taliban Says Afghanistan Is Preparing For The Establishment Of A Regular Army

JAKARTA - Afghanistan will soon improve its military strength while organizing the government announced last Tuesday, in line with the need for a trained and organized military force.

This was conveyed by the Commander of the Afghan Army chosen by the Taliban, Qari Fasihuddin. He said Afghanistan would soon have an army with an organized force.

"Consultation is being carried out to establish a regular army. Troops must be trained to defend Afghanistan", Qari Fasihuddin explained, quoting Taliban spokesman Ahmadullah Muttaqi on Twitter on September 15.

Separately, US officials said the Afghan Army had more than 300,000 service members, in addition to the US-supplied Air Force and other equipment before the Taliban takeover, citing Sputnik News.

Washington provided Afghan security forces with about $28 billion worth of weapons between 2002 and 2017, with nearly all of this equipment now feared to fall into the hands of the Taliban.

As previously reported, Qari Fasihuddin, who was appointed Commander of the Afghan Army, is one of the most influential figures in the Taliban. Of the various commissions in the Taliban, the Military Commission is the largest and most significant, according to Afghan researcher Fazelminallah Qazizai, citing VOA September 5. This commission is led by Mullah Yaqoob Umari with three representatives, namely Maulawi Sadar Ibrahim, Maulawi Abul Qayum Zakir, and Qari Fasihuddin. All three were prominent military commanders. Fasihuddin is a senior commander for nine northern provinces and is of ethnic Tajik origin.

Meanwhile, according to Samaa.tv September 7, Qari Fasihuddin, known as the Conqueror of the North, was the first Taliban leader in history to set foot in Bazarak, the capital of Panjshir province. Qari Fasihuddin played a key role in the Taliban occupation of northern Afghanistan, having the honor of conquering Panjshir, Afghanistan's only undefeated province.
