Floods In North Gorontalo, 155 Residents' Houses Are Submerged

JAKARTA - There was a flood in a number of villages in Tomilito District, North Gorontalo Regency, Gorontalo on Saturday, September 4. It was recorded that the flood submerged 155 houses in the sub-district.

The villages affected by the floods include Milango Village, Bubode Village, Leyao Village, Jembatan Merah Village, Dambalo Village, Huidu Melito Village, and Bulango Raya Village.

"High-intensity rain that occurred on Saturday at 15.25 p.m. local time triggered this incident", said Acting Head of the National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB) Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari in his statement, Monday, September 6.

When the flood hit, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Gorontalo Regency reported that the flood had submerged with water levels reaching 1.5 to 2 meters. Abdul Muhari said, as many as 531 residents fled to safer places.

Currently, it is reported that the flood has gradually receded. The displaced residents have returned to their homes but are still wary of the potential for further flooding.

"The temporary data of residents who are still displaced are 54 families or 200 people. Some residents choose to evacuate to the houses of relatives who are not affected", said Abdul Muhari.

This flood also had an impact on the collapse of the embankment located in Milango Village. The BPBD of North Gorontalo Regency has coordinated with related agencies such as the Social Service, Public Works, and River Halls to carry out the handling.

Responding to the weather forecast from Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Council (BMKG), the forecast for the start of the rainy season this year, the Gorontalo region is predicted to enter it in September to November 2021. Facing the rainy season, the BNPB urges local governments and communities to increase preparedness and vigilance against potential hydrometeorological hazards.
