JAKARTA - The Regional Police of North Maluku thwarted an attempt to smuggle illegal liquor type Cap Tikus (CT) from Manado City which was brought to Ternate City by ship.

Head of Binopsnal Directorate of Samapta Bhayangkara of the North Maluku Police, AKBP Faruk Alkatiri, in Ternate, Wednesday, explained that this arrest was the result of an investigation and fundraising conducted by the Minor Crimes Unit of the Directorate of Samapta Bhayangkara of the North Maluku Police and found that 2 tons of Cap Tikus liquor which was to be sent to Ternate City, was successfully secured.

According to him, the liquor was secured on the Permata Obi Passenger Motor Ship (KMP) which docked at the Ahmad Yani Port in Ternate.

He explained that on Tuesday, August 31 at around 16.00 WIT, the team was ready at Ahmad Yani Port, Ternate. When KMP Permata Obi docked at the port, the team immediately checked the hull of the ship and found liquor stuffed in sacks and piled with other luggage.

The evidence of the 3,268 Cap Tikus type of liquor in bottles of 650 ml mineral water was then secured to the Mako Directorate of Samapta Bhayangkara of the North Maluku Police.

"For the time being, the owner of the goods is still under further investigation, but as the person in charge of the cargo on the ship (Kompredor) KMP Permata Obi, we are under it for questioning, if we are involved in the smuggling of liquor, we will process it according to applicable law", said AKBP Faruk Alkatiri, reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 1st.

Separately, the Head of Public Relations of the North Maluku Police, Kombes Adip Rojikan, confirmed the arrest.

This incident is evidence of the weak supervision of crew members (ABK), especially in the cargo section of the ship, so that cargo containing liquor can escape boarding the ship.

The North Maluku Regional Police will continue to carry out raids both at the ferry port and places indicated to be locations for liquor transactions.

I appeal to all the people of North Maluku, especially the crew of both land and sea transportation and for those who know information related to liquor, whoever it is and maybe there are members of the police involved, do not hesitate to report and we will take strict action by the rules of law that apply and stay away from liquor because the root of all crime is liquor", he said.
