Completion Of 8 Laws On Elections, Commission II DPR: We Always Improve Performance Day By Day

JAKARTA - The chairman of House of Representatives Commission II, Ahmad Doli Kurnia, said that the DPR always improves its performance from day to day. In particular, House of Representatives Commission II considers that there must be improvements to the law on the political system, including the Election Law.

"We at this commission from the beginning have compiled about 8 planned laws. We consider these 8 laws to be an entry point for us to improve the quality of our democratic political system development", said Doli in the virtual discussion "The Long Way to Push Changes in the House of Representatives" organized by Formappi (Indonesian Parliamentary Concerned Community Forum), Monday 30 August.

The eight laws include the first, the General election Law. Second, the Regional Head Election Law.

"What we pushed at the beginning was to just become a law, namely the Election Law. Because we think that it is better in the framework of the refinement process we should set our elections to only one regime. Unlike now there are 2 regimes, there is an election, there is an election regime", explained the Golkar politician.

Third, the Law on Political Parties. "Hopefully, we will process the Law on Political Parties soon, unlike yesterday's election law", he continued.

Fourth, the law on the position of MD2 which was previously MD3. Because, said Doli, the Regional House of Representative has been included in the regional government law

"Well, (fifth, red) the Regional Government Law because it is related to the position of strengthening regional autonomy, then the authority of the Regional House of Representative as well, and so on", he said.

Sixth, the village government law. The seven laws on the Regional House of Representatives, and the eight laws on financial relations between the central and regional governments, are currently being drafted in the House of Representatives Committee XI committee.

"Indeed, there are aspirations that are developing in the Indonesian House of Representatives, including regional aspirations because they want the Regional House of Representative Law to be separate from the Regional Government Law", said Doli again.

Doli said that his party had started to revise the Election Law first because this law would produce all political products from other remaining laws. The hope, he said, could be momentum for an in-depth study.

"Because it was carried out at the beginning of the government period after the election, not before the election as usual, which then makes haste. We also want to be a momentum if the law can last long enough unlike the previous law where it changes every 5 years. We are the world, so we have not focused until now on dealing with COVID-19 and its impacts", he explained.

So, added Doli, the government, and the House of Representatives agreed to temporarily stop the discussion of the Election Law.

"It's not that the final is not discussed, but it's temporarily stopped looking for the right time. Because if we want an increase in quality, then at any time in the election we have to make improvements or revisions. Not this period, maybe the next period", said Doli.
