Asks 48 BLBI Obligors To Immediately Pay Debts To The State, Mahfud MD Warns Of Criminal Acts

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD asked 48 obligors and debtors of Bank Indonesia Liquidity Assistance (BLBI) to immediately settle their debts to the state.

"The government expects obligors or debtors to fulfill their obligations to settle their debts to the state," Mahfud said at a press conference, Jakarta, Friday, August 27.

Mahfud asserted, in accordance with the decision of the Supreme Court, this case is in the civil realm. However, it does not rule out the possibility of entering the criminal realm.

"Although we will try our best to complete it as a civil law or through civil processes, it is not impossible that later in the journey it can contain or be accompanied by a criminal act," he added.

The crime in question, said the former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, is if BLBI debtors or obligors provide false information, transfer assets that are already owned by the state. Then the submission of fake documents and so on.

"Later it could become a criminal law, therefore here there is the Deputy Attorney General (Setia Untung Arimuladi) and the Babareskrim (Komjen Agus Adrianto) who will together with the task force examine this (document)," said Mahfud. Sri Mulyani also asked BLBI debtors and observers to settle their debts to the state.

"I hope that obligors and debtors please fulfill all calls and let's immediately settle all of your 22-year bonds or obligations, which are obligations that have not been settled," Sri said.

It is known that the BLBI task force was inaugurated in early June. This refers to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) No. 6/2021 concerning the Task Force for Handling State Collection Rights for BLBI Funds, which was issued two months earlier.

The BLBI Task Force is under and directly responsible to the President. The establishment of the Task Force aims to effectively and efficiently handle, settle and restore state rights originating from BLBI funds. Debt collection will be carried out on all obligors and debtors that reach Rp110.45 trillion.
