Violating Aceh Qanun Commits Adultery, BA And TM Are Sentenced To 100 Lashes In The Courtyard Of The Great Mosque Of Babussalam

ACEH - Five violators of Islamic law in Sabang City, Aceh, were sentenced to caning after being proven guilty of violating Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law, namely gambling and adultery.

The caning of shari'a violators took place in the courtyard of the Babussalam Grand Mosque, Sabang City.

"Three lashes were given to three perpetrators of gambling and two adultery perpetrators", said Head of the Sabang District Attorney's Office, Choirun Parapat, in Banda Aceh, Antara, Thursday, August 26

Choirun said that in the Jinayat (Islamic law studies) of gambling, violators had the initials M (30), J (36), and MR (24). They were found guilty of violating Articles 19 and 20 of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning the Jinayat Law.

Then the violators of Jinayat adultery with the initials BA (22) and TM (21) violate Article 33 of Aceh Qanun Number 6 of 2014 concerning Jinayat Law.

Choirun conveyed that the caning sentence for the three violators of the Shari'a had been reduced to a period of detention so that the defendant initial M received 5 lashes while violators J and MR each served 10 lashes.

"As for the adulterers with the initials BA (22) and TM (21), each of them served 100 lashes without a reduction in prison terms", he said.

Choirun appealed to the people of Sabang City to stay away from criminal acts that are prohibited in the qanun and other criminal acts so that public order in this tourist area is maintained and conducive.

"This is actually something we don't want. We are concerned about this incident. In the future, it is hoped that there will be no more violations like this or other violations in general, but if there are, we will continue to act according to the applicable law", said Choirun.

Meanwhile, Assistant for Government, Aceh Privileges and People's Welfare, Regional Secretary of the City of Sabang, Andri Nourman, thanked the Sabang District Attorney's Office for carrying out caning activities for violators by the applicable authorities in Aceh Province.

Andri said the purpose of implementing this qanun is to provide comfort and safety for the community from acts that violate religious and cultural values.

"We actually don't want this to happen, hopefully, the implementation of the caning can be a lesson for all of us present so that in the future there will be no more violations of Islamic law in Sabang City", said Andri.
