Ministry Of Health: Bed Occupancy Of COVID-19 Patients Above 80 Percent Only Occurs In North Sumatra

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Vaccination of the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, reported that the occupancy of beds for treating COVID-19 patients is above 80 percent, currently only in North Sumatra.

"Our positive achievement is that no province has reported more than 80 percent of treatment bed occupancy (BOR). Meanwhile, ICU BOR of more than 80 percent was reported only in North Sumatra Province", said Siti Nadia Tarmizi, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, August 18.

The decrease in BOR, said Nadia, can be seen by the community in the hospitals around them, where the queues have begun to decrease.

Nadia hopes that all COVID-19 patients with severe symptoms and requiring hospital treatment can undergo proper treatment according to standards to reduce the death rate.

"This is also proof of the success of our vaccinations, that the vaccines we use can prevent severe cases and also deaths from COVID-19", she said.

A real example, said Nadia, can be seen in the graph of the rate of DKI Jakarta COVID-19 cases which was able to reduce the number of additional cases and death rates at a lower level compared to the initial period of the implementation of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"Various restrictions on community activities as well as strengthening of health protocols have enabled DKI Jakarta Province to reduce the rate of disease transmission and at the same time increase the capacity of the response to the pandemic", she said.

DKI Jakarta Province is also considered by Nadia as having massive efforts to overcome COVID-19 through increased testing, strengthening close contact tracing, quarantine activities, and strengthening compliance with health protocols to be able to ease the existing health system in DKI Jakarta province.
