Police In Madiun Distribute Basic Food, Hoping To Reduce Communities' Burden Affected By COVID-19

JAKARTA - The Madiun, East Java Resort Police (Polres) provided 1,250 free basic food packages for residents in the district affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Madiun Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Adjutant Jury Leonard Siahaan said the distribution of free basic food packages was to reduce the burden on the community for the COVID-19 outbreak, which is still ongoing.

"In addition, the distribution of 1,250 food packages to communities affected by COVID-19 in the Madiun Regency area is also in the context of Bhayangkara Social Service for the country," said Grand Commissioner Adjutant Jury Leonard as quoted by Antara, Sunday, July 11.

Meanwhile, the distribution of basic food packages was symbolically carried out by the Madiun Police Chief along with the main Madiun Police officers to targets at the Madiun Police Headquarters yard. The targets include pedicab drivers, small traders, parking attendants, and garbage collectors.

For the rest, the distribution of basic food packages was carried out in 13 Polsek of Madiun Police. Later, Bhabinkamtibmas officers will go to each house of the eligible residents so that there will be no crowds in each Police Station.

"We are trying to distribute the distribution as much as possible not to create crowds, namely by "door to door" directly to the homes of residents in need," said Jury Leonard.

The food packages distributed consisted of rice, instant noodles, sugar, cooking oil, masks, and others.

The Madiun Police Chief hopes that the assistance provided can help people affected by COVID-19.

"We understand that with the emergency PPKM, meeting the needs of life is getting harder. Because the Madiun Police is providing a little help to all of you, hopefully, it can be useful," he said.

The police chief also appealed to recipients of assistance to continue to comply with health protocols such as wearing masks, maintaining distance, diligently washing hands, reducing mobility, and staying away from crowds.

"Please convey to your family and friends to continue to comply with health protocols to prevent the spread of COVID-19, especially in the Madiun Regency area," he said.

In total, cases of COVID-19 in the Madiun Regency area as of Sunday (11/7) reached 4,995 people. Of that number, 4,409 people have recovered, 262 are still under monitoring, and 324 have died.

Additional new confirmed cases this Sunday were 56 people, 24 people recovered, and 11 people died.
