Rocky Gerung: From The Beginning Rizieq Shihab Was Targeted, Agreed With Munarman

JAKARTA - Political expert Rocky Gerung assesses the 4-year sentence handed down by the East Jakarta District Court Judge against Habib Rizieq Shihab while confirming that he has indeed been targeted.

"From the beginning (Habib Rizieq) was targeted, in the same package with Munarman, with the FPI," said Rocky in a video entitled "Habib Rizieq's 4 Years Sentence, Judge Could Be Subject to Article Triggering Controversy!" on the Rocky Gerung Official YouTube account, Friday, June 25.

It is known that Habib Rizieq was legally and convincingly found guilty of committing a crime, participating in spreading false news and intentionally causing trouble in the case of the Ummi Hospital swab test results.

According to the panel of judges, Habib Rizieq was guilty of violating Article 14 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code.

The Assembly then sentenced Muhammad Rizieq bin Husein Shihab alias Habib Muhammad Rizieq to a prison sentence of 4 years in prison.

Rocky alluded to the reasons for the trouble that became the offense in the Habib Rizieq case. According to him, chaos is an excuse used by the authorities since the New Order era.

Strangely, he said, it was not the public who felt restless but the rulers themselves.

“All events can also cause public trouble, but that is not what constitutes a rioting offense. It also fails to understand power," he said.

In fact, Rocky praised Habib Rizieq's firm attitude and immediately declared the appeal without thinking before clemency. This attitude, he said, was in accordance with the public who witnessed the trial firsthand.

"The public outside also wants to appeal," he said.
