JEMBER - Police have arrested two fugitives in an alleged extortion case in Jember Regency, East Java. Both have the initials TO (40) and AG (45).

Both were on the wanted list (DPO) after two of their colleagues were arrested. They conspired to extort the victim of IDR 17 million with the issue of infidelity by threatening to publish it to the mass media.

“We have again arrested the DPO in the extortion case. It's not even been a week since we set him up as a DPO", said Jember Deputy Chief of Police, Kompol Kadek Ary Mahardika, Thursday, June 17.

In this extortion case, the two suspects participated in scaring the victim. The suspects TO and AG also received a sum of money from the victim.

"According to police records, the suspect TO has served a 4-year prison term in connection with a case of abuse", Mahardika added.

The two suspects were charged with Article 368 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code and Article 369 Paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.

Besides TO and AG, the police previously arrested ME and MA. MA (41) is a recidivist in an extortion case and was convicted in 2017.

Another suspect with the initials ME had been involved in the theft of a motorcycle and the case was handled by the Sumbersari Police.

"The two suspects were reported to be victims for allegedly committing extortion by claiming to be journalists", said Kompol Mahardika.

The extortion took place in the Wuluhan and Jenggawah areas on June 11-12. The Supreme Court suspect asked for compensation of IDR 17 million.

The modus operandi of the perpetrator admitted that he knew the victim was cheating on him because he left the hotel with someone.

"The compensation is intended so that the victim's actions are not exposed in the media", he said.
