COVID-19 Cases Soar, Luqman Hakim Asks President Jokowi To Intervene To Lead The Succession Of The Vaccination Program

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission II of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Luqman Hakim appreciated the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian who issued instruction number 13 of 2021 to regional governments to tighten the implementation of restrictions on community activities.

Along with the increasing number of positive COVID-19 in the last few days in many areas of the country, such as Kudus, Bangkalan, and DKI Jakarta.

"Regional governments and the public do need to be constantly reminded to comply with health protocols", said Luqman in his statement, Tuesday, June 15.

Apart from the presence of a new variant of the virus which is estimated to spread more quickly, according to him, the government's policy of allowing tourist attractions to be opened during the Eid al-Fitr holiday yesterday was worth mentioning as a factor that made the current spread of COVID-19 worse.

"Because the symptoms of community saturation over the COVID-19 pandemic are widespread. Likewise, some local governments are starting to slack off in controlling COVID-19 in their own regions", said the Central Java legislator.

However, the secretary of the Social and Disaster Movement of the PKB Party Central Executive Board (DPP) assessed that this instruction from the Minister of Home Affairs was not enough to overcome the COVID-19 problem. The reason is, in the midst of widespread community saturation, the re-increase in the number of transmissions is certainly very worrying.

"I certainly hope that the government can convince the public to continue to follow the health protocols. But that's not enough", said Luqman.

According to him, like it or not, somehow the vaccination process must be accelerated to expand its reach to the public.

"In order to accelerate this vaccination, President Jokowi needs to lead the vaccination program himself so that obstacles to vaccination implementation can be easily hacked", Luqman suggested.

Luqman believes, if the vaccination program is able to reach a minimum of 2 million people per day, then in the not too distant future, communal immunity will be created which is the main condition for the end of this COVID-19 pandemic.

"And life can go back to normal", he said.
