Carrion Flowers Bloom In Sylva Arboretum Forest, Tanjungpura University, West Kalimantan

JAKARTA - The manager of the Sylva Arboretum, Tanjungpura University, West Kalimantan, said that the carrion flower or Amorphophallus Paeoniifolius grows and blooms in the forest they manage.

"Carrion flower plants grew and bloomed after we managed them at the Sylva Untan Arboretum," said the manager of the Silva Untan Arboretum Fahrul Rahimin in Pontianak, as reported by Antara, Tuesday, June 8.

He also said that initially, he received information from residents in Pal Sembilan, the Kakap River area, that there were carrion flowers growing around residents' homes.

"Then we take it and try to preserve it in this forest that we manage," he said.

He added that the carrion flower had been growing for a week and then fully bloomed in about three days.

"We have planted it for almost a year. This carrion flower has been growing for a week, but it has only been in full bloom for three days and has a height of about 20 to 30 centimeters," he said.

Plants that are often called carrion flowers but classy, only survive a week or two weeks.

"This carrion flower comes from the type of carrion flower tubers. Its survival is only for a week or two," he said.

He explained that the growth of this carrion flower cannot be predicted depending on the species.

"This type of plant can not be predicted to grow, depending on the species. So this type of carrion flower is rarely found or rare, so from there we maintain its sustainability," he said.

He added that there is no special care for the carrion flower plant, only planted in such a way, the carrion flower can grow and bloom by itself.

"We only separate this carrion flower and then we put a bar or fence so it doesn't spread with other plants. We don't have any special care for this carrion flower, this carrion flower grows and blooms by itself," he said.

Fahrul said as the manager of the Arboretum area, he will continue to preserve the plants in West Kalimantan so that there is no extinction of both flora and fauna.
