The Implementation Of SNI Is Mandatory For Food Products Accumulating The Competitiveness Of The Food Industry

JAKARTA - Head of the Standardization and Industrial Services Agency (BSKJI) of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) Andi Rizaldi said that the mandatory implementation of the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for food products will directly increase the competitiveness of the domestic food and beverage industry.

By implementing SNI, he continued, industry players also have the opportunity to increase wider market access, as well as operational cost efficiency.

"SNI is obliged for food products to ensure the fulfillment of national quality standards, which can provide protection to consumers, and strengthen the competitiveness of local products," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 23.

His party together with the National Standardization Agency (BSN) have adopted ISO 9001: 2015 to SNI ISO 9001: 2015.

This standard supports the development of a conducive work culture and the achievement of optimal business goals.

However, currently, strategic efforts are still needed to increase the application of these standards in the food small and medium industry (IKM) sector.

These efforts include supporting business actors by reducing certification costs, increasing the understanding of business actors about the benefits and certification process, and designing certification procedures that are more accessible to IKM entrepreneurs.

Head of the Bogor Agro Industrial Services and Standardization Center (BBSPJIA) Siti Rohmah Siregar stated that his party had also reviewed with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) regarding the implementation of ISO 9001: 2015 and mandatory SNI for food IKM.

The results of the study showed that there were still few IKM entrepreneurs who implemented certification standardization, such as SNI or ISO, and also the lack of IKM players who used the internet as a means of product marketing.

In fact, for IKMs that already have or apply SNI/ISO, they will have a productivity rate of 14 percent higher than those that do not have it.

This also applies to IKMs that have internet and SNI/ISO access. In fact, for IKMs who have both things, they are considered to have a productivity level of 15 percent higher than IKMs that do not have both.
