Russia's New Stealth Bomb Can Destroy Radar Stations To Opponent Command Posts Without Being Detected

JAKARTA - The Russian military continues to develop its military and combat capabilities, with a variety of the latest weapons technologies. Recently, Russia is ready to produce 'stealth' bombs.

Included in the Drel family of bombs, later this stealth bomb will also be launched from Russian bombers with various capabilities. This bomb is targeted to be produced as soon as possible and then distributed to Russian military units.

Deliveries of the newest Drel glide bombs to the Russian military are expected to begin in 2023, CEO of the Technodynamic Group (part of state technology company Rostec) Igor Nasenkov said on the sidelines of the Union of Russian Machine-Builders congress on Wednesday, June 2.

"I'm sure we will finish the Drel project next year. If we finish the trial next year, we will actually be able to start serial production from 2023", he explained, launching TASS Friday, June 4.

The Drill glide aerial bomb has been developed by the Bazalt Research and Production Association (within the Techmash Research and Production Group). The latest launch bombs are intended to destroy armor, ground radar stations, command posts, and propulsion units of surface-to-air missile systems. Reports about the manufacture of new bombs appeared in 2016. This glide bomb was later called capable of being invisible to radar.

It is known that the Drel air bomb currently on the Russian armament list is the PBK-500U Drel. Coming into service in 2018, this 540 kg bomb has a maximum firing range of up to 50 km with an effective range of 30-50 km.

In addition to bombs to attack, one of the Russian technology companies has also developed a counter-munition, ammunition that is fired to provide a shield of protection from precision-guided weapons attacks.

Targeted to finish undergoing trials this year, the munition will be exhibited at the Army-2021, an arms exhibition, the bomb developer said.

"The Central Research Institute of Precision Machine-Building (TsNIITochMash, part of state technology company Rostec) has developed a new munition to increase armor resistance on the battlefield and protect it from precision weapons, the Rostec press office announced on Friday, June 4.

"A new counter-munitions has been developed in 76mm caliber and weighs 2.8 kg. When a threat arises, counter-munitions are fired in a dangerous direction to create an aerosol curtain and chaff interference that 'blinds' the enemy precision weapons guidance system", explained the Press office.

"The item will be unveiled at the Army-2021 arms show and its state trials will be completed this year", said the Rotec Armament Cluster, noting that the latest ammunition will be in demand in the export market, Press office continued.

Compared to previous generation ammunition, the combined curtain density in the new projectile has been increased by 50% which makes it possible to suppress ammunition with laser, optical, thermal, and radar guidance.

To note, TsNIITochMash has developed several generations of protection systems against precision weapons. In particular, the company has created means of protection for the PRP-4A 'Argus' reconnaissance vehicle, the Uragan-1M dual launch rocket system, and other combat vehicles.
