PDIP Wants Only 2 Paslon Candidates In The 2024 Presidential Election, Observer: His Scenario Is To Win, Not The People's Desire

JAKARTA - PDI Perjuangan wants the 2024 Presidential Election to be followed by only two candidate pairs. PDIP will offer and build coalitions in order to narrow down the chances of other parties bringing in candidate pairs.

Responding to this, a political observer from Al Azhar Indonesia University, Ujang Komarudin, assessed that PDIP wishes to close the democratic space that is already running in Indonesia as stated in the Election Law.

"That is his wish, not the people's desire, his will is not the will of the people. If we refer to the law which requires 20 percent and then opens 3 or 4 candidate pairs, that means (PDIP, ed) closes the democratic space," said Ujang to VOI. , Friday, 28 May.

The two candidate pairs' suggestions, said Ujang, were only tricks by the PDIP to make it easier to map the political map of the opponents and increase the chances of winning.

"If there are only 2 candidate pairs, maybe the PDIP wants to win, wants to localize the other political opponent, so mapping it is easy. That seems like it," he said.

The reason, he continued, was that the PDIP did not have a strong presidential candidate to face other candidates. Where the electability of Puan Maharani as a candidate who is predicted is still very low.

"If this is the case, what we have to observe is that PDIP has not had a strong candidate lately. So they propose the two pairs," he explained.

According to him, the PDIP discourse on the 2 candidate pairs is not democratic. Referring to the past democracy in the 2019 Presidential Election, it will again trigger polarization in society.

"They used to say that the Jokowi coalition had two pairs of polarization. Why do you now want 2 pairs ?," he continued.

Ujang suspects that this discourse is only a PDIP scenario to win again in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. In fact, it increasingly shows that the party led by Megawati Soekarnoputri is not confident.

"PDIP seems not confident (confident), the dilemma is still confused, the lady will be forced to run for herself. That's why any scenario emerges," said Ujang.

"For example, the scenario hit Ganjar and then the scenario how the topic could be trending. Then the scenario, what is the current scenario of carrying 2 candidate pairs. This is part of the scenario. Because there are no candidates who are considered to win in 2024, PDIP creates scenarios that he thinks the direction is possible. him to win, "he added.

Ujang emphasized that the issue of 2 candidate pairs will narrow democracy. This means that PDIP does not carry a good democracy.

"Democracy provides an opportunity for all the nation's children, whoever is worthy can become a presidential and cawapres candidate. This means that it opens up as much space as possible to become a candidate who meets the requirements,"

"If the requirements meet 3 or 4 pairs, then the best candidates will emerge. The best candidates are the people who choose," concluded Ujang.

Previously, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto said his party also wanted the 2024 Presidential Election to be followed by only two pairs of candidates so that it would not last two rounds.

"So we will build a coalition so that at least two candidate pairs will participate in the next election, there will not be two presidential elections, two rounds," said Hasto in a discussion held by the PARA Syndicate, Friday, May 28.
