The Minister Of Home Affairs Will Evaluate Fire Prevention Procedures In Several Buildings In Indonesia

JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian will evaluate fire prevention procedures in a number of high-ranking buildings in Indonesia after the deadly fire that killed 22 employees at the Terra Drone Indonesia building, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

"I came here to see the location of the fire that occurred yesterday, I also discussed with the Minister of State Secretary, which basically we also don't want this incident to happen again. We are all grieving that 22 people died due to the fire incident in this building. Then I was ordered to evaluate the procedures for preventing fires from buildings. what it was like and then so that it doesn't happen again," said Tito Karnavian at the location of the fire, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, December 10.

Tito checked what steps the Minister of Home Affairs had to take in response to the fire incident in the building at high risk.

"Approximately what to do, there is a green area or not, the regulation of the problem of preventing building fires, for example. Then from discussing with the mayor and the police chief as well as the DKI fire department, I think that every building construction must have a test on fire prevention or mitigation of fires," he said.

Tito emphasized that in Jakarta there are a lot of high risk buildings or high-risk buildings.

"So if there is a fire, the risk is greater than the low risk building, low buildings," he said.

Tito explained, in the regulation to build one building, it is necessary to have building approval (PBG), so the owner who will build the building proposes PBG.

"That's what was published by the local government through the DPM PTSP (One Stop Integrated Service Investment Office). The mechanism is indeed made easier when there is a Job Creation Law, which is called a low risk, moderate risk, high risk through the online system to facilitate it. The goal is to create jobs," he explained.

Then, continued Tito, usually areas that already have MPP public services, if DKI is MPP, only one is owned by the province.

"But for other areas, there are a total of 296 MPP. There are outlets to issue PBG. So one of the requirements to build the building is a function-worthy certificate including the prevention of decent buildings to prevent fires or mitigation in the event of a fire," he said.

In the process, the feasible certificate of function that has been issued will be carried out field checks by the Fire Department.

"One of the conditions is that the Fire Department will see if there are fire extinguishers (APAR), whether there is an evacuation route in the event of a fire to extinguish it quickly and others," explained Tito Karnavian.

Currently, Tito said, the case of the deadly fire is still being investigated by the Central Jakarta Metro Police.

"We will deploy a team from the Ministry of Home Affairs. Because we also understand this rule. Rules are usually made through the regional regulation for PBG (building approval). From the Inspector General of the Ministry of Home Affairs we will deploy it, to see administrative issues so that the building can be established," he said.
