Visit Tidore, Minister Of Culture Emphasizes Historical Site Arrangement From Gomafo To Tahula

TIDORE - Minister of Culture Fadli Zon reviewed a number of Cultural Sites in Tidore and emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening conservation, research, and historical narratives. The visit began at the Tomb of Sultan Zainal Abidin Syah, the 35th Sultan of Tidore who had just been awarded the title of National Hero by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia. This pilgrimage is a tribute to his role in the struggle for West Irian and the unification of the region.

The series continues to Gomafo Fort, a witness to the resilience of the Sultanate of Tidore facing European expansion. From this location as high as 63 meters above sea level, the Minister of Culture emphasized the importance of strengthening the North Maluku maritime defense site.

The Minister of Culture also visited the Tomb of Sultan Nuku, a National Hero who brought Tidore to glory until Papua. The visit then continued to the former West Irian Governor's Office House in Soasio, the residence of Sultan Zainal Abidin Syah while serving as the first governor. At this location, he suggested that the building be designated as a museum to strengthen the narrative of West Irian's history.

"His residence is very worthy of being a museum, study room, culture, and community expression," said the Minister of Education, Thursday, November 27.

At the Sonyine Malige Museum, the Minister of Education and Culture emphasized the importance of strengthening research and conservation of heirloom collections and ancient manuscripts inherited from the Sultanate of Tidore.

The visit was closed at Tahula Fort, a Spanish heritage fort in 1610'1615 at an altitude of 200 meters above sea level. Fadli emphasized the need to establish this fort as a National Cultural Heritage. He also highlighted the plan to build a road from Tahola Fort to Tidore Kedaton to increase access to visitors.

"We hope that Fort Tahola can soon become a National Cultural Conservation," he said.

Also present were Tidore Mayor Muhammad Sinen, North Maluku Regional Secretary Samsuddin A. Kadir, Sultan Tidore Husain Syah, and the ranks of the Ministry of Culture. This visit also encourages the activation of cultural sites to have a greater impact on the people of Tidore.
