Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs: Explosion At SMAN 72 Jakarta Is Not Necessarily A Terrorist Action

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam) Djamari Chaniago stated that the National Police together with the TNI were still investigating the explosion incident in the SMAN 72 Jakarta building which was inside the Indonesian Navy Complex, Jakarta, Friday, November 7 afternoon.

Djamari, when asked about the possibility of the explosion as an act of a terrorist group, answered that the officers who were processing the crime scene (TKP) were still working, and could not provide any conclusions regarding the explosion.

"Yes, it is being investigated, then we will see the place there, then there are some who are injured, we are looking for what the cause is. Djamari along with a number of ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, legal figures, and former National Police Chief arrived at the Indonesian Presidential Palace since 14.30 WIB to attend the inauguration of the National Police Reform Committee at the State Palace, Jakarta, Friday at 16.00 WIB.

The explosion occurred inside the SMAN 72 building in Jakarta, which is located in the Indonesian Navy Housing Complex in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta. The incident occurred on Friday at 12.15 WIB.

The latest information received was that eight people were injured and immediately rushed to the Health Center of the Housing Complex of the Head of Gading TNI AL, then referred to the Cempaka Putih Islamic Hospital and Yarsi Hospital Jakarta.

Head of the Indonesian Navy Information Service, First Admiral (Laksma) TNI Tunggul, told reporters in Jakarta on Friday that the investigation was still ongoing so that the Indonesian Navy could not provide detailed information regarding the cause of the explosion.

"The Indonesian Navy and the National Police are still in the process of investigating the chronology/cause of the explosion and the number of victims. Regarding the data and further development information, it will be submitted if there is valid data," said Laksma Tunggul.
