Explosion In Sudan During Ceasefire, Residents Worrive To Hear Drones Passing Early In The Morning

JAKARTA - The explosion was heard near the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, which is controlled by regular soldiers, Friday, November 7.

The incident came a day after a paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rebel group approved a humanitarian ceasefire.

A resident in Omdurman, part of the Khartoum Raya region, told AFP on condition of anonymity that the explosion woke them from sleep.

"[Constructed] at around 2 am (00.00 GMT) by the sound ... the explosion near the Wadi Sayidna military base," he said.

Another resident said they "carried an unmanned plane or drone over the head around 4 a.m. before an explosion occurred near" a power plant. As a result, a power outage occurred in the area.

The RSF paramilitary two weeks ago seized El-Fasher City, the last major bulwark of regular soldiers in western Darfur. It is estimated that the paramilitary is now shifting its focus to the east, towards Khartoum and the oil-rich Kordofan region.

Khartoum has been relatively calm since regular soldiers returned to control of the city this year, but RSFs fighting with regular soldiers since April 2023 have continued their attacks in several areas, which make military and civilian locations victims.
