JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal, responded to the statement of the Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar who assessed that the mass media reported cases of sexual crimes that occurred in the pesantren environment in excess.

Cucun emphasized that cases of sexual violence in any institution are not justified.

"So now we have to understand that in the era of information technology that is so fast, of course. So such cases cannot be tolerated, there are many sexual violence in any institution. For example, sizes raised by the media or whatever, we ourselves made movements internally," said Cucun at the DPR building, Jakarta, Thursday, October 16.

"So fight and opponents who are called sexual violence in educational institutions, especially in Islamic boarding schools," he continued.

According to Cucun, sexual violence does not only occur in Islamic boarding schools.

Therefore, according to him, any deviant behavior must be anticipated so that it does not happen.

"Not only, it was said earlier in Islamic boarding schools, public education institutions or for example in entities that hold boarding-boarding. That can happen," he said.

"If we don't anticipate mitigating or campaigning about health and reproduction or whatever," added the PKB Deputy.

Cucun said that sometimes there are factors of fear or because of layness so that cases of violence in educational institutions often occur.

"That's why after yesterday we declared the anti-sexual violence at the Islamic Boarding School, this was followed up by Nyai's mothers conveying health and production. Especially women must understand how the boundaries, barriers about sexual violence," concluded Cucun.

Previously, Minister of Religion Nasaruddin Umar considered that the mass media had reported cases of sexual crimes that occurred in the pesantren environment in excess.

In fact, according to the Minister of Religion, the findings of cases in the field were not as serious as those reported by the media so far.

"There are sexual crimes in Islamic boarding schools that are exaggerated by the media, even though they are only a few in number," said Nasaruddin at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Community Empowerment, Jakarta, on Tuesday, October 14.
