JAKARTA - The government requires a radioactive free certificate for business actors who will export shrimp to the United States (US) regarding the policy of warning imports or imported alerts from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Expert Staff for Digital Transformation and Inter-Institutional Relations of the Coordinating Ministry for Food Sector who is also the Head of the Communication and Communication Division of the Cs-137 Bara Task Force Krishna Hasibuan said the Government of Indonesia and the United States agreed that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) would issue a certificate of contamination-free.
"The Indonesian and United States governments have agreed that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries acts as a certification or CE that issues CS-137 contamination-free certification, for shrimp exports to the United States," Bara said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, October 13.
Bara conveyed that the procedures for certification and reporting related to shrimp and spices are in the finalization stage.
He hopes that this regulation will provide certainty to the business world.
In addition, the government also ensures that testing and certification schemes can guarantee that shrimp products are Cs-137 free of contamination.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Quality Control and Supervision Agency for Marine Products and Fisheries, KKP Ishartini, said the certification was applied to shrimp and spice products from Java and Lampung starting October 31, 2025.
The certificate uses the applicable fishery product quality certification mechanism, but is added with the information that the product to be sent is free of radioactiveity.
"For certification, we use existing certifications, namely SMHKP (quality certificate and fishery product safety). We only add an explanation in the certification in the form of being free and radioactive," explained Ishartini.
The certification process will be carried out by the KKP technical implementing unit (UPT) in the regions, provided that business actors have attached the test results from the appointed laboratory.
Testing will also be carried out in the laboratory of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and the costs will be borne by exporters.
"Not paying for the certification, only business actors may later be subject to the burden for the test fees in the lab. The cost of laboratory testing is borne by the private sector, the export," he said.
This certification rule applies to companies in the yellow list category, namely fish processing units in Java and Lampung that get export permits to the US on condition that they meet new regulations.
Meanwhile, companies that are categorized as red lists, namely PT Bahari Makmur Sejati (BMS), whose products have been detected as radioactive in the US, must go through the stages of filing a petition, verification, and certification by an independent certification agency accredited by the FDA.
