Unprocessed By Law, Karawang Police Resolve Cases Of Sexual Harassment Through Mediation

The Karawang Police have resolved a case of sexual harassment experienced by a vocational school student in a city transportation car through mediation.

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Karawang Police, IPDA Cep Wildan, said that the sexual harassment incident experienced by a vocational school student occurred on Monday (25/8).

At that time the victim was riding a city transportation bound for Tanjungpura-Rengasdengklok with his colleague.

Then after his partner got off, the angkot driver who was known to have the initials DR (41) forced the victim to move and sit in the front seat, next to the driver.

Then the victim moved to the front seat because he was forced to. That's when the victim was immediately abused. Meanwhile, when he got off the angkot, the victim cried hysterically.

In handling the incident that was recorded in the video until it went viral, the Karawang Police secured an angkot driver who was registered as a resident of Tanjungmekar, West Karawang District, Karawang.

"A clarification has been made between the angkot driver and the victim. The perpetrator, who is an angkot driver, has admitted his mistake," he said.

Cep Wildan said the angkot driver was secured to the Karawang Police Headquarters to avoid unwanted incidents. Because after the incident, residents gathered at the victim's house.

It was stated that in resolving the problem, the police conducted mediation between the victim and the perpetrator.

"Through mediation, finally both parties agreed not to continue the case, provided that the driver received social sanctions," he said.

The social sanctions imposed on the angkot driver are that they must leave the Tanjungmekar, Tanjungpura, Tunggajati and surrounding areas.

In addition, the perpetrator must also apologize to the victim and promise not to repeat his actions, both against the victim and others.

"So the police have facilitated a meeting between the two parties and succeeded in reaching a peace agreement. Both parties agreed to resolve the problem amicably and would not take this matter to court," he said.
